Great article. I do disagree somewhat on #9. I strongly believe in sharing our opinions regardless of who it offends. If I read something I oppose or disagree with, I like the writer even more. I don't limit myself to avoiding things "not to my liking".

The only thing in blogging I don't like is people writing about the same things everybody else does . . . ie twitter tips, etc.

Newbie in blogging, I just found out your post and I like it.
Simple things to bear in mind when posting. This is typically the kind of thing that goes without saying... but goes better when said ;-)
I will try to apply it, I'm still a bit lost in this multitude of concepts, tools, services and content ;-)

Yes. If you have those incoming links, you are pretty much it. Some people link to blogs that are highly opinionated with views they don't like.

When i saw this topic, i was so excited that i picked up my pen and tried to write something on paper. Guess what I wrote. "TEN REASONS WHY I DON'T LIKE MY BLOG". I saw 7 out of those 10 reasons here when i came back to check. At times, just knowing the problem is not enough. Some of us just manage to live with the problems because we don't know how to solve them. This post teaches me how to solve them.

There is a ton of different things that go into PR, but it seems the #1 thing you can do to improve it is incoming links. From personal experience though, as long as you have incoming links, you can ignore pretty much everything else and still get a decent PR quickly.

Hi Asithi. Welcome to my world. :-) I had a law practice and we are trained to write in a cryptic style. So when I became a blogger it was like learning to write all over again. We are not writing for journalism or a business proposal. It's a whole different game and market that we are reaching out to.

So what helps me is if I read my posts out loud and try to make it sound as if I'm having a conversation directly with you. Thanks for dropping by!

I am still working on the writing style. My problem is that I am an engineer, so when I write at work it is with authority. For my health and fitness blog, I find that sometimes I tend to write without as much personality as I like to be. It's amazing how blog writing is its own style.

Hi Piya. I would click on my categories for both Blogger and Wordpress and read the pros and cons for both. Personally I prefer Wordpress, especially for professional blogging but in the end it's according to what your needs are.

I just finished writing a 20 page document in french on the incorporation of blogs in on-line news sites, and it suddenly occured to me that I have no idea how to start a blog! What plateform would you suggest using? Have you any tips? Im really sorry to trouble... I really liked your advice and glad that I stumbled upon you first to give me the heads up on blog etiquette... I promise to link you when im up and running!
