    Blogbloke,

Nice post! I've been meaning to register with entrecard for a while now, but for various reasons never really got round to it.

You have entrecard as you first killer way to get free traffic, is it really that effective? Can't help but think that it's a futile exercise, but I can be convinced otherwise!

PS linking out to other bloggers is absolutely underused by the majority of bloggers out there! We're all in it together, give kudos to the guys (or gals) who are making noises within your niche!

    All the best,

    John.

    @ John

I've had mixed results with entrecard. Although I've discovered a lot of new blogs, however the traffic sent from entrecard advertising isn't much valuable - most people just come to your site to "drop" their card and don't read your post often. This results in a high bounce rate and lower pageviews/visitor (often as low as 1.1)

Excellent article. My sense about Entrecard is that it's a passing trend...just haven't felt called to engage with it. However, you asked for other ways to drive traffic, and here's my answer: Facebook, Plurk, Twitter, and Stumble work for me.

I was recently introduced to two other sites similar to yahoo answers, when i find them I'll let you know.....or blog about them myself ;)

I'm a little surprised at your response regarding article directories....have you given them a fair try?

Remember, they are for the "long haul" not quick easy traffic.

    Great list overall!

  • Mushfiqur Rahman · 1 year ago
Well, article directories send very little if no traffic at all. They're a resource for syndication, and the most sites that publish your submitted article article get very low traffic themselves. I don't know, but if you write a good one and gets syndicated a lot, you could have a pagerank boost. Then again, nobody with a PR 3 or 4 is going to syndicate your article :-), and mostly you will get PR 0 or PR 1 backlinks.
  • Dennis Edell · 1 year ago
I'm afraid I must disagree, strongly. I just started, so I have personal proof yet, but it has indeed been proven many times over that article marketing when done correctly to the proper directories is one of the BEST traffic sources there is.

Congrats on having success with Article directories. Wish I had the same results when I first started blogging. :-(

    @ Kuanyin

To add insult to injury, I haven't been able to log in to my Entrecard account in the past three days. Anyone having the same problem? I've got to approve a couple of ads ;-), it looks like their servers are experiencing overload.
  • BLOGBloke · 1 year ago
Submitting is a numbers game. It's no different than the court room racket. My motto was "whomever throws the most cocca poo against the wall that sticks, wins".

It's the same with blogs. The more places you get your name out there can't hurt. Some will bring in more immediate results, some will bring in higher volumes. Some will result in higher conversion rates of casual readers to subscribers, whereas some chase the long tail.

Marketing never ends and you need to put the time and effort into it to see results.
  • Quickroute · 1 year ago
I discovered posting to relevant Forums and relevant Facebook pages can draw in significant traffic.

I emphasize relevant as you obviously need quality content to keep them on to explore your site and hopefully come back.

Entrecard can bring people in purely to click your Entrecard. I find sites like that frustrating and of little value e.g. linkreferral.com etc!

  • BLOGBloke · 1 year ago
I'm glad you mentioned that. The bottom line for any traffic generating method is you want to convert them into subscribers and regular readers. Digg and StumbleUpon can generate high traffic temporarily, but the conversion rate into subscribers is rather low. It seems that these type of readers are more addicted to following their favorite SN headlines than subscribing to an individual blog.

I'm getting a bounce rate of 85% on Entrecard traffic. I agree with you, the idea was novel at first but the traffic is really hit and miss.

Besides, I've not been able to access my entrecard account in the past few days. Are you having the same problem?

I have no problems logging in. I will repeat myself though, if I may...I've never really thought of EC in terms of traffic, as the bounce rate was pretty apparent right from the get-go.

Think of it in terms of the AMAZING networking tool that it is though, and you'll do fine ;)

Glad to see you two working things out. ;-) After reading this article I decided to open up an Entrecard account. I wanted to change my pic but it wouldn't let me so I contacted them. It's been 3 days now and not a word. I give up.
  • Mushfiqur Rahman · 1 year ago
Can't you change it in your dashboard? There's usually a link there that allows you to upload a new one. As for me, I'll take down Entrecard from my blog :-(. I'm still not able to log in to my account.

Already tried that. Although the new pic shows in the dashboard, the blog widget still shows the old one. A waste of time.
  • Mushfiqur Rahman · 1 year ago
I don't know whether this is relevant, but if you've already placed an advertisement it will show the old pic instead of the new one you uploaded.
  • BLOGBloke · 1 year ago
Nope. No ads from me Mushfiqur. Given that you can't even log in they are obviously having their troubles.
  • Mushfiqur Rahman · 1 year ago
*sigh* I'll be taking Entrecard widget off my blog. I really liked the idea though, it was like having your online personal business card.

I got the same error today.

Don't despair BB, Mush is right. This will even be on your own site.....if you place an advertisement, the new one should show on that site.

But the reality is that internet marketing and any other marketing for that matter, is the life blood of any business. But your advantage on the internet is huge, cause of the low cost and ease. (you can do it yourself) But you still have to work hard and put time into it, and this is the problem, no one wants to work....and we all know that nothing is for free in this world. (usually)

Actually, I'm wrong, there's tons of stuff for free on the internet, and you can also get a ton of traffic to your site for free, if you know how to play the game, work hard, and know how to market yourself.

There's tons of tricks and tips and I try to learn one everyday.
  • Mushfiqur Rahman · 1 year ago
The whole business world is a game. *Ahem* Sploggers *Ahem* who keep on recycling old content keep getting dugg and get the most traffic while someone with a great original voice will never see the daylight.

Basically, it's a game and you have to play it right.
  • BLOGBloke · 1 year ago
*Ahem* ... amen to that brother!
  • Mushfiqur Rahman · 1 year ago

Thanks for the tip about Entrecard. I have never heard of it but I will take a look. Does it work on Squidoo lenses? I guess I will find it.
  • Mushfiqur Rahman · 1 year ago
Well, entrecards, as far as i know, don't work on Squidoo lenses. I posted a reply earlier but it didn't show up here. Maybe it's stuck in your spam comments BB?

In my earlier reply, I said to head to the entrecard blog @ http://entrecard.com/blog and download their free e-book which contains useful tips for beginners as well as advanced users alike.

I've tried replying to your comment twice. But for some reason it's not showing up. :-(

    Hello mushfiqur,

    Good tips for newbie blogger.

I agreed with you to write blog content for longer phrases (3-4) words rather then target for main keywords.

I heard entrecard before but never try it because I heard it not help much on quality traffic.

Overall your tips is really helpful, Thanks

I just got an email from entrecard to say they have partnered up with SezWho commenting.

It seems they are trying to promote and reward commenting on entrcard blogs. More here http://entrecard.com/blog/

Not sure if this will work yet - thoughts?
  • BLOGBloke · 1 year ago
I got the same message. I'm taking a look at it.
  • Mushfiqur Rahman · 1 year ago
Me too. But it's a little too late. I'm not interested anymore, plus I STILL haven't been able to log in to my account.

Usually, I found that if you have good traffic and some great content, comments will automatically follow.

Here's the best tip of all. Do you want to get lots of traffic? Then write a post about getting free traffic. It works like a charm ;-)
  • shawal · 1 year ago
Really good tactic that you have here....

What i like is the Yahoo Answer tactic coz i'm doing it to my blog - to sell product but you should write that no affiliate link are allowed in Yahoo Answer, I have been banned for those...
  • Helsa · 1 year ago
    Hello,
yes it is all true. You can link to wikipedia as well if you can write a blog that can be considered reference to any of the article in it. For example if you write about flash games and your blog is about flash games then should be fine to link it I think.

Nice post, more like this please,
Can I use this in my blog?
  • The Viral Script · 1 year ago
The possibilities are only limited by your imagination. Imagine the email lists you can build, the affiliate sales you could rake in, this script is DANGEROUS in the right hands. You may just unleash a flood of traffic that you have no way of shutting down.

We all know that traffic equals money. Here's a site we're starting up soon that is designed to build a mailing list... FailureProofProfits.com. Can you imagine having your subscribers actively promoting your squeeze page for you? It's entirely possible with The Viral Script.

You want people to find you too! For that you need to generate some buzz about your site, you and your blog. Paying for advertising is ok too as many legitimate businesses do this all the time. Singing your own praises like Linkreferral does and charging people to collect on the hits they bring him for having his link on their sites in exchange for being on his site isn’t. It is a scam! Sadly many of his members are impressed by his google and alexa rank and the $ he is making off them and are too stupid to hear him laughing all the way to the bank at them!

Mike the site owner from Canada, is the only one making $ off this online MLM scheme! the rest are just getting some untargeted leads and traffic. The best way to get hits to your site is to have good content and be interesting. Look at Megan Fox! She is gorgeous! does she need to pay Mike at Linkreferral for hits? I think not! For the rest of us who are ordinary and not blessed by great genes, we have to work at it a bit! We do not have to cheat and badmouth our competition though! All I am doing is reporting the facts here. The truth speaks volumes!

“You can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time!”

Not everyone is impressed with Linkreferral, affiliate marketing and MLM’s. Just do a google search on Linkreferral some time and read the comments page if you don’t believe me! Many prefer like me to just comment on what they find interesting on other people’s web sites and blogs. I do use entrecard and blogupp to get some hits but most just say for 5 secs. Who needs that? Many are deluded into thinking this is FREE advertising but time is money and it takes time to visit these sites and drop and click on them! However, you get a shot at people here you would not ordinarily come into contact with. If you are a gifted writer and sell a good product, you just may grab them into being loyal readers or buyers of your product. That is up to you!

    Happy blogging and surfing!

Well Entrecard isn't always viable. Showing the 125x125 isn't possible on every website when you try to keep it as cleana s possible. Same for pop-ups, visitors are often scared away by these objects. Good post though
