BLOGBloke: The Last Word on Minimalist Blogging

  • Gem · 1 year ago
Everyone's taste in blog design is really different. No one can really dictate what makes a good blog. I prefer bloggers who try to figure things out on what designs really work on their blogs.

I am not a big fan of minimalist designs. I'd probably go for minimalist designs when I blog something about simplicity, like haikus. For womanly blogs, designs that have a lot of pink, flowers or ribbons work well for them. Technology and man blogs are better off in black and blue designs with clean lines (I got criticized on this one). Money making blogs - those 3 column layouts that have those 125x125 ad spaces that will fit any money making ads that they can think of.

Some big bloggers simply ignore comments about how bad their site is designed because majority of their readers appreciate the content more than the design of their blog.

I could not resist to comment =)

All good points there Gem. Design can depend on so many factors including your niche, content, perspective audience, as well as your sex as you point out. ;-)

That's why I love to debunk the so-called design "experts" out there who have such a narrow view on what good blog design should or should not be.

Blog design "experts" it is almost like the interior decorators in for these models. Sure the models look nice, but I cannot imagine a family living in them. It certainly would not be my home. With blogs, you can look at these "experts" for ideas, but in the end it all comes down to how you want to showcase your virtual home.

Ok BB buddy, give it to me straight. Be forewarned, I may have to unsubscribe forever, come to your house eat all your food and steal your pets....

Do I or do I not have to give up my OCD regarding widgets and plugins????

    :-)

Hey hold on here...didn't you have a subscribe-to-comments plugin here? I hate readers...

The "subscribe-to-comments" link is below the submit button

Maybe Dennis is looking for the checkbox to be notify when there is followup comments via email? I was looking for that myself since I rarely like to subscribe to a comment feed.

    Hi Asithi.

There's no need for a check box because I installed a plugin that sends email replies (like this one) automatically. Cool!

Great post. I'd have no blog if it weren't for adding my photos! "A picture is worth a thousand words"
