BLOGBloke: What Is Blogging Really?

  • Donny Gamble · 11 months ago
I believe that blogging means something different to each and every blogger. I would use having success as a great example because success to one person might be totally different to someone else
  • BLOGBloke · 10 months ago
    Thanks for dropping by Donny.

Of course you know Blogging best ! Great Post Bloke !

I feel that the "pure blogger" types are fast becoming smaller compared to those blogging for commercial interests.

I see Twitter and Facebook these days as tools to get to know my other bloggy pals better - and it's helped.
When I find a new and interesting blog, I look for a link to their twitter first in their sidebar.
  • BLOGBloke · 10 months ago
Can't argue with your assessment about the money bloggers Jaffer. The blogosphere is turning into an infomercial cesspool.
  • Curtis · 11 months ago
Hey Bloke. I consider Twitter a big chat on your own time room. I also use it to update Arrgg Facebooked! lol Myspace has a blog imputs but come on its not a blog.

While I don't blog much anymore since letting my domain go. If you need me to write a post I would be honnored. Just let me know what you want me to talk about.
  • BLOGBloke · 10 months ago
As long as it's anything about blogging. Surprise me :-)
  • The Moneyac · 10 months ago
    Nice post.

I would say that nowadays blogs can be called as "social tools" or even maybe "business cards". I mean, how hard it is for you to set up a blog, and write a post once a week ? Trough blogging we can find customers, like - minded people and even business partners. And I believe as long as people will like to talk and socialize there will be blogs.

For those "wannabe blogs" such as twitter, facebook, myspace, etc. I think they're just... well... crap. They're not blogs, they're just "social chat" like you said. They see how blogging is evolving and they want to jump on this train. I am only on facebook (don't use MySpace), but I will not see those networks as "blog friendly" as long as they don't release their own blogging service, such as blogspot.

Maybe in the future, we will be able to see something like MySpaceBlog.BlogName.com

    We will see...

    Cheers,

    The Moneyac

Good points there Moneyac. Setting up a blog can be as easy or as complicated as you want. Especially a robust platform like Wordpress.
  • asithi · 10 months ago
Tried Twitter. Like you said, it feels like social chat. It really sucked up my time. And I do not feel like I actually created anything by the time I am done.

Tried Facebook. Not sure I like it too much either.

At least with my own blog, I feel like it is my digital home. People can drop by, but nobody else is paying the rent so I do not have to worry about being kick out.

I agree with the "digital home" connotation. At least it's all mine.

I don't even consider sub-domained free platforms real blogging, much less the social networks...but that's me.

I know. Right from when I heard twitter was a microblogging, I became confused. I thought blogging is when you are trying to educate your readers and not tell them things like I are going to sleep in the next 4 minutes.
  • BLOGBloke · 10 months ago
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ ... the power of suggestion :-)
  • Mitch · 10 months ago
I don't believe calling Twitter "micro-blogging" is an accurate statement, and I certainly don't believe Facebook counts as blogging at all, so I agree with you on both counts. They're definitely part of the definition of social media, though, but in my opinion, Twitter solves that issue way more than Facebook. I mean, at least on Twitter you sometimes see the semblance of a conversation; that very rarely takes place on Facebook; that is, unless I'm too old.
  • BLOGBloke · 10 months ago
Thanks Mitch. So far it looks like the majority of readers agree on this point.
  • Sheila Atwood · 10 months ago
It is not hard to see how twitter has supposedly morphed into micro-blogging, it is being used for everything else imagined, like fund raising selling real estate, spam, contests to get the most followers etc.

The Internet is a big forum with a lot of opinion and you can find one to fit what ever you want to agree with.

I like twitter for just the social chat stuff and I find some pretty great links from my twitterverse.

  • BLOGBloke · 10 months ago
Hi Shelia. That's how I use Twitter - i.e. for making short announcements, as a marketing tool or for linking. But still I wouldn't call that blogging. Would you?
  • Sheila Atwood · 10 months ago
No Twittering is not blogging, not matter what someone is
trying to make it into. Now a marketing tool yes!
  • Saran · 10 months ago
I agree with you, writing on Facebook and Twitters can not be called as Blogging. Twitters just updates what are you doing write now ?, Where in blog is about what i feel, what i want to share, why i feel etcs.
  • Matt McGuire · 10 months ago
I hate how the term blog or blogging is applied to every user generated content on the internet. Forums are not blogs, chat rooms are not blogs. Not sure why but it annoys me.

I consider Twitter and Facebook the side dishes of my main meal, the blog. You put the side dishes on your plate, but it doesn't make a square meal without the steak.

Why must I always relate everything to food? I have a problem.

I agree with the initial commenter, blogging means something different to every person. We all have reasons to blog. As potential readers of blogs we have the ability of searching out the blogs of interest and deciding if they are worth our time, and deciding if the posts are something we want to follow. Thanks!

    There's nothing like a personal touch :-)

Loyalty is a character that I esteem highly more than most. As a blogger I've helped numerous people over the years. In fact I love to help people. I've offered it without any strings attached, and unlike my competitors I haven't tried to profit from it.

Most people just take what they can get then move on and never hear from them again with barely a thank you. But you my dear are loyal and for that I am truly honoured and appreciative.

You have also (might I add) turned into a prolific blogger and matured as a professional photographer. I hope you will remember me when your work is featured on National Geographic.

    Much thanks and cheers!

Well I guess in its simplest form a blog is, when you have something to say...and say it.

I don't make money on my blog, socialize or do political stuff - I just write what makes me happy.
    :)

@-=A.R.N.=-, I hear what you're saying, but isn't "blogging" also the medium that delivers the message? Otherwise we could just call it writing.
  • Charles Sipe · 9 months ago
I think of blogging as simply a tool that enables an individual to publish content on a chronological series of discrete pages. It doesn't matter what type of content is on the pages as long as it is created by a human. From that point of view I would classify Twitter as a micro form of blogs. Even though each tweet is not an individual page, it's the same idea of a feed of constant updates on top of older updates.
  • BLOGBloke · 9 months ago
Ok Charles. We all have a right to be wrong.

Ha! Just kidding my friend. Thanks for your comment and drop by again.
